A HSETXNG was held at Fifzroy Hall on Monday evening, in support of the! Licensing Oummittee candidates j piedgtd to 10 (/clock closing, Mrj Whiiaker presided, ; The Have. S. S. Osborne and Evans i addressed the meeting on much the same as at other places. Kev. W. Drew, in moving a reso- ' lotion pledging support to the 10' o'elock ticker, ohjtced to the action of Mr Paul and his friends in putting forward candidates for the Licensing Bench, as it wes unseemly that the business to be controlled should seek to influence electors in the choice of supervisors—a course that would not be allowed in the Oivil Service or Education Departments. The motion was seconded by Mr! Hawfeiu and carried
Tfce Rev. F. A. Bennett compared the troubles caused by drink to a decayed tooth, which must be stopped. By dosing bars at 10 o'clock one seventeenth of the mischinf would be saved. Remembering what harm drink had done the Maoti?, he would do all he could to reduce the temptation. A vote of tfaanks to the Chairman closed the meeting.
