Johnston with a great run got underneath. Four for 37. Hickson, the new-comer was clean bowled with his second ball. Five for 38, Trott having secured four wickets for 19. Hopkins' advent led to livelv cricke f , the new-comer hitting 11 off Trotf a over. G-egory quietly reached double figures He then warmed up and overhanled Hopkins, making excellent leg strokes, but got leg in front. Six for 73. Hopkins lifted Trott high, Johnston miking another fine citch in the outfield. Seven for 80. -

Pye and Kelly became associated and brought the century up, Thompson replacing Hargreave. The fast bowler got folly almost immediately. Eight for 104. Howell commenced with his usual fourers and then hit Trott out of the ground. Howell put one up, but Warner failed to hold it, three resulting. Pye was playing fine cricket and made top score. The wicket was kicking a lot. Fane played Howell on strictly defensive lines. Warner, with his total at 24 had a life at W. Duff's hands, and then followed up by some fine dean hitting, fourers following in quick succession. At 39 Noble relieved McBeth who took Howell's p'ace. Warner when playing the bowling with confidence get his l«g in front to Noble. Two for 44.

Taylor failed to scora, Kelly stamping him. Three for 45 ! F.ne, who was cutting finely and playing stylish cricket, was joiaed by ' Dowson at 61.
