NEW VOLUNTEER REGULATIONS.
New .regulations bave been gßzettec! providing for <he earning of opitation by volunteer companies. Members of mounted companies must either train for one week at a time in camp, or else attend a total of eighteen mounted parades in tha year, at whch at least half of the strength must ba present. If the training is in camp for a we? k each man most be presnfc during the whole of such trainiug, sod be present on at least three other dismounted parades during the year, irrespective of camp, of not less than two hours' duration ; these dismounted pircdes need Mt be by daylight. If the training oF the corps is by eighteen parades during the year, each member, to earn capitation, must be present at euch parade?, must be present on at least threo other dismounted parades of not le3s than two hoars' duration, - and at which at least balf of the *■: ecgtb is present; these dismounted pirad..a need not b) by daylight. In addition to qualifying by either of the above method?, twothirds of the strength of the company mast be present on at l-ast four parades during the year. The minimum s'rergth of mounted rifle companies is reduced to forty-three. Esch company of infantry and cyclists must go into camp for six days each year. Men must be present, and sleep in cimp four days out of the six, and each man must attend eighteen parades, at which at least half of the strength must be present, three being afternoon parades, during the year. Two-thirds of the strength must be present, on at least four parades during the year.
The same regulation applies to bearer companies, except that the musketry course need not be goce through, and each mm most earn a certificate of efficiency in ambulance work. Members of Garrison Bands must have served six months, and ba efficient musicians, and attend eighteen parades dating the year. . With regard to paid daylight piradee, the regulations provide: A personal payment of 2s 6d per officer and volnnteer will be made to those who attend parades as provided below. Paid daylight puradfs will not count towards capitation, and no member can earn the personal payment fcr more than six parades in one year. Daylight parades to be held in the open, and between the hours of 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. duting the months of November, Dscembe r , January and February, atd bot 'eeu 1 p.m. an.l 6 p.m. dating the run under of the ye.r. Daylight parades to ba devoted to practical fi Id manoeuvres. All parades to be of not !<S3 than two aod a hi If hours' duration. The strength necessary to be present in ordtr to earn payment is as follows mounted rifle volunteers, infantry, bearer and cycle corps, one half of the total strength of the company.
