At an open meeting of the Trades and Labor Council this evening, it was resolved to take strong objection against many, of the reoeDt awards of the Court on the grounds: —(a) That conditions have been introduced which were never solicited by either party to disputes which are decidedly in favour of em ployers; (b) that diS'irc" preference is given to employment cf juvenile labour to the detriment of adults; (c) thit whore preference to unionists has been given the other award conditions are ruch that it is ab'olutely unworkable; (d) that in dangerous occupations where machinery is used wages are fixed according to the age of the operator and the oocupa'ion ignored thus increasing the risk qf accidents; that the Inspcc'or of Awards should be appoints with powers similar to those of "the Factory Inspectors ; that the Premier be urged to maintain the existing constitution and status of the Arbitration Court, and to insert a clause in the Act preventing etrikes or lock-outs during the currency of awards. |
