riU PBXBB ADSOOUTIOV. Auoklahd, March 17. Excitement was Caused in St. Stephen's Avenue, Panel*, at 8 o'ooek las night by several revolver shots. A search a young stan on the ground with a five chambered revolver by Lis side. All,, the chambers had i ecf ntly been discharge!. , The man is said to have ,been ft mrmber of a New Zealand Contingent. He gava his name as Robert Tair. It is soid that he had been r* jteted by ft youiig woman with whom he had been keeping c mpany. His agi is between 25 and SO. I'ait admitted shooting at himself. He utattd that his dnt>tntion : was to die for the girl. Dr. MscKe'lar made an examination bui discovered no wound. Tait wa* arretted on a charge of attomping to commit suicide.
