Bruce and McAlister opened the fecond innings of the Victorians briskly, runs coming free off Thompson's fast ones. At 25 Trott relieved Thompson, but the board showed 54 before the partnei ship was dissolved by Bruce, who had made 36 by graceful jciicket.

Armstrong partnered Graham, Thompson goiDg on vice Trott and opening with three wides. Slow play followed. Bosanquet tried his hand at bowling, bis first over yielding 7. The score steadily mounted, and all inttrfßt dropped out of the match. The fielding was lifeless. Graham and Armstrong were still together at the tea adjournment, the score standing at 143. On resuming, despite the trial of no less thin six bowlerp, rurs continued to come steadily.
