FIRE BRIGADE'S CONFERENCE.

PER PRESS ASSOCIATION, Napier, March 9. At the New Zealand United Fire Bridage's Conference to-day, the following resolutions were carried:—That any brigade being in default or acting in such a manner as to be derogatory to the welfare or interests of the Association, may b) suspended by the executive from all benefits. A brigade so suspended shall have the power, by giving one month's notice before the annual meeting, of appealing to the delegates against the executive's decision. (2) That an invitation to hold the Conference or Conference and Demonstrafion shall be handed in at the annual meeting, and if more than one in vita'ion be received a vote of the brigades shall be taken and decided within two months. That in the event <jf a> y firemun being temporarily in ano'her district than his own, he be allowed to put in his practices with the brigade of that place, provided such brigade ie duly registered ; theso attendance to be recorded on the roll of his own brigade. Secretary Kobins (Hawera), President Walton )Grey mouth), and Lieut. Baker (Gore) were appointed a deputation to wait upon the Premier during his visit to Napier this week and ask whether the Government would give its support to the Brigade Bill, the principles of which are that the maintenance of brigades should be cist upon local bodies, Fire Insurance Companies, 'and the Government. The deputation wa-i instructed to bi ing undsr his notice the question of obtaining a reduction in the duty on fire brigade appliances. Invitations for the n?xt Conference have bsen received from Palmerston North and Te Aroha. A vote of the brigades throughout the colony will be taken on the matter during the next two months.

A torchlight procession was held this evening, which was attended by over 500 fireaien. The procssion, whic'a was the largest that has yet been held the auspices of the Association, Boarehfd tlircugh the p-incipal which were thronged with people.
