Compwy, h»s been advised that the cargo steamer Kakapo sailed from England on 9th inst. for Sydney direct, and that the new pas=enger steamer to be called the Manuka (called aft<r the New Zealand tree of that ni»e), 4 500 tOBs, is to arrive la the colonies in time for next summer'sseasen. These vessels havebeen entered with a view towards filling the gsp caused by the sale of six steamers to Eastern buyers. The Oorinna is due at New Plymouth Breakwater an 3rd pros., with carge from Sash Island ports, in place of the Upolu. It will be remembered that early in the season vessels were hiag in Welliu?ten •waiting care". The reverse is the case just ■ow. as the Post says:—" TheTytersteamer Star of New Zealand will leave for London to-morrow morning at daylight, carrying roaghly 54,000 carcases sheep and 8500 bales of wool. This is the third vessel for Home that the companv has despatched from the colony within the past IS days—surely a record." The Wellington Rren'uuj Post says:—"The Botomaoana arrived from L»t'eiton at 20 minutes to 9 o'clock this moraine, after a passage of 11 hours 40 minutes. This is the earliest th»t a stenmer has ever arrived from Lyttelton after connecting with the Dunedin express train. The Moeraki, which alss arrived this morning, made the same ran in 11 hours 48 minutes."
