VOLUNTEER NEWS.
We learn oa gooi au'hority that Ootoaal Ellis hasaeceivei the necessiry authority for holding an Easter Encampment of the Taranaki Battalion. We feel eura all Yo'untoers will look forward to this with considerable pleasore, as all the companies will be in camp. A numbar of local shots leive this morning for the Stratford Rifle Meetiag, after which they proceed to the Wanganui, and tbence to Treat ham. The Taranaki Rifles intend being reprtsented at Trentham by a team of fie mo. The Taranaki Provincial Rifle Association's meeting to-day and Tuesday at Stratford promises to bs a good one if the weather hoHs fine. Gjod entiies hare been received, and, judging by the quality of the riflemen engaged, aomekeen competition may be expected. We understand from Major Okey that the locality of the Eister camp has not yet been fixed. Captain Boddie has presented the Bltham Rifles with a handsome silver challenge cup to be shot for. Referring to the proposed Euster camp, the Kltham Argus siys:—Many members of the local corps would have preferred swing the camp fixed far New Plymouth, Ettham or Stratford, seeing that Hawera his already had the Eltham men down there. However, if Hawera is chosen it will prove very convenient, and the Eltham Volunteers will send down a large contingent t? take advantage of the Easter training.
