THE LICENSING ELECTION.

A raw days back tha Revs. Osborne and Woolley, as a deputation from the Ministers' Association, waited upon Mr J. Paul, as representing the Licensed Victuallers Association, suggesting that 10 o'clock should be agroed to as the hour of closing licensed houses in New Plymouth, and thus save a contested election for tha | Licensing Committee. A reply has now been received in which the Licensed Victuallers regret their inability to accede to the request, and expressing the opinion that 11 o'clock is a reasonable hour for a town of the sizs and importance of New Plymouth. A meeting of the Ministers Association will, we understand, be held on Tuesday, when it is expected a selection of candidates for the committae will be ; made, and the election will be contested on these lines.
