HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The Board met on Monday. Pi esent —Mews Tiech, McDonald, Andrews, Gray, Brown, Liardet, Hine, Mackay, i Stobr and Pigott. Mi-s Amy Dickinson was placed on | the list if probationers. j Mr McDonald reported on the financial circumstances of the West family. -Referred to tha Cbairman to ascertain the Board's iegal po iti n. Mr Scott informed'the Board that Mr G. E. Parrtßgton had bren appointed Secretary of, the Hawera Bo rd. Nurse McMillan's resignation was accepted. Probationer Bertram was reported to have taken up her duriee. James Davidson, an inmate of the Home, applied to be ten 1 ; to tbe Sanitarium at Rotoiua. -Referred to the Chairman with power to act. Several explanations as to non-pay-ment of accounts owi"g to the B;ard wen read and dealt witb. Mr Mackay proposed that the Chairman, Mr Stohr, and the mover be a committee to inquire into the advisability of inviting duly qualified medical practitioners in the district to be present at operations at the Hospital. The motion, which wss seconded by Mr Andrew?, was deba'ed iu committer and on resuming was declared to bj carried. Means Mackay and Liardet reported on the Stratfoid reserves, recommending that the same ba offend by public auction for lease for a term not exceeding 12 months, on conditions as to terminating tenancy.—Adopted. An inmate of thi home wss before tha Board to answer a complaint as to a breach of the by-lawi, and was cautioned that in the event of any future offence he would be dealt wi h very severely. The Chairman reported tbat the in- i mates at tbe Henui Refuge had been removed to the Home, with one fxception, who prefeired to " paddle his own canoe." He recommended a filter to be provided at tbe Home. He also reported an visits made by himself and the the secretary to tbe the, homes where the children under the Board's care were placed. Ho stattd that by arrangements made in the case < f one family the Board were savtd 25s 6d per week. Visits were also made to acme of tbe charitable aid recipients, and the Chairman recommended that gome cf the case 3 should be sent to the Heme. With regard to the Hecui Befogs, erected in 1849, he cou'd not recommend khe Board speeding any money on tbe building, but he tuggested that if any btdy of citizens should express a wish to preserve this bu'lding, which was of an historical character, the Board sbou'd fa~ilifcate matters in that d>rettiou. He furthev recommended i ha*; the oid. of the Hospital verandah should be enclosed, at an estimated cost of £8 16s. The report wss edopted, a cordial vote of tharks being accorded the chairman fir his pains in the nratter. The Chairman gave notice to move that a rate of lOd in the £IOO be struck. Accounts amounting to £499 18s Id -were passed.
