BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.
HALT-YIARLY MEITim FKB FKBBS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, February 6. The half-yearly meeting of the Bank of New Zealand was held at noon to-day, Mr F. de 0. Mallet, chairman, presiding. Mr William Watson, the retiring director, was re-elected. The Chairman pointed oat that thei meeting was merely held under the terms of'the de3d of se'tlemant and no accounts could be presented; but he had no reasra to doub 1 . but that- in March the directors would be able to present as satisfactory a balance-sheet as last year. Be congratulated farmers on the imp ovfd prices obtained for produce, and also shareholders of the Bank on the fact that the shares were again sought at par or slightly above. This was good evidence amoag*t others of the credit which tbe Bink enjoyed. With reference to the proposed arrangements of the Bank in connection with a maturing guarantee and other mitten affecting it in i's relations with tbe Government, the Chairman said that these matters were now under consideration, and the directors had no doubt but that satisfactory arrangements would be concluded.
Regret was expressed at the resignation of Mr J. Embling, the general manager, and tbe Chairman, said so far, 1 the vacancy had not been filled, but meanwhile Mr A. Mitchie, manager of the Dunedin branch, who enjoys the entire confidence of the Board, would administer affiirs at tUs head office. Yotes of thanks were passed to the directors. In reply the Chairman" ""ia he thought the directors had started on the right track, and if th-y bad good times and fair luck be anticipated further prosperitv.
