FIX PRESS ASSOCIATION. Mabtbrton, February 8. The Band Contest was continued t> day. The garden pany ia the afteinoon as a welcome to the judge, ami visiting bmdsmen being a great sooceu. The attendaoos numbered several thouswds, £l5O being taken. Fourteen bands were massed and played " Ex Aoimo," under the baton of Mr. M. Oohtn, President of the Association, with splendid effect. The rasults of the silo oontesta were : B. Flat euphonium: S'ains (Denniston), 96 prints, 1; D. Boyd (North Eut ValUy) 82 point*, 2; T. Gray (Wanganui), 73 paints, 3. B. FUt Biritone: J. J. Oosgrovt (Ms'ertoo), 74 points, 1; F. Dixon (WeHiugto-) 62 points, 2; A. Martin (Wanganui) 56 paint*, 3. 8.8. Fiat Bus: 0. Hunsen (Southland) 90 points, 1 ; T. Hughes (Taranaki) 71 points, 2; F. Huggins (North East Vality) 65 poin's 3. G. Trombone : Boyd (Wanganui), 4i pointf, 1 ; J. 01 ver (North Bast Yalky)24 p>in'.s, 2; R. J. Young (Masterton) 3,' The Judge said that the solos for the 8.8. Ba-s and G. Trombone were badly chosen, and in addition the trombone playing was really wr.tched. The companion < decided this evening wera the and trio*. At the annual meeting of the Association, held this evening, the report showed 29 bands were affiliated, an increase of five ovir last. R-oeipts were £IOB and expenti'ure £ll3, the bilanoi in hand being £33. Mr Cohen was re-eleoted president, and F. J. Oikes, seorAtary, the Utter to be paid asilary of £3O a year. It was decided to hold the 1904 contest at Palmer*'on North, and the 1905 contest nt Auckland. Th* loostun of the 1906 correal was not fixed.
