A list of arrears of rates was kid on the table and evoked some ditcussion, O.s Gray and Hill considered that the Council should state the minimum amount that should be sued for. The Chairman thought that would not be advisable, but that all outatand ing rates should ba sued for, and this course was adopted.

The Moa Foreman (Mr Kennedy) repor ed that most ot?n?rs on tha Zigzag had cut fuiza as ordered. He inquired what course was to betaken relative t» the Reserve on the Zigzag. (To be looked into.) He irq'tiivd whether contractors were to redueo the sze of boulders so as to be ready for the crusher. Thi Caairman said the specifications for tho bmldsis to be carted ready for ths crusher. Or. Gray urged there should bs no qu «tion about the matter. Ia reply to Mr Hill, ths OhaUman said the contract did not actually specify that the stone was to be raduc d to*the siz i ths crusher would tafce, but contractors generally knew this was the cue. o'. McDanald moved t w at the Foreman bs instructed to receive no stone at tbe cruiher over seven inches. Or. Brown said the qjustioa had arisen over Tarry's contrac". Or.'Gray cantsndel that there should ba but one authority in the Riding. Or. Brown explained that the ar--1 rangement whereby the Foreman was the chief authority, would not work. Saveral Councillors considered it would be beat to discharge all the men. The Chairman considcrsd there was a tendency to get too many foremen. If a man refused to do what be wis ordered, he should ba reported and digcharged, Or. Brown thought the esgine, driver should have control of the meu at the crusher. Or. Gray wanted all the men except the foreman and engine-driver discharged. He moved in that direction. - Or. Brown: There is a fresh stiff of men about every other day. Or. Hopson considered no further delay should take placs in i.he eppointment of a ontroliing officar. The eDgine-driver reported, suggesting that it would be mu ;h more satisfactory if he had the on'rol of th» men working in connection with the crusher. He also sugg sted u s ing ooal instead of wood for the engine. Or. Andrews moved that the engineer have charge of the men employed abiut the crusher.

The Otmrm&n siid that wag the reasonable course to take. Or. Hopsan considered the foreman wag at fault in not instructing the men to obey the orders of the enginedriver. Or. Ths Chairman painted out that ther<t was an Egmont County Laagua in anJ he thought it wou'd bi well to give thtt b.dy notice that the Counc 1 intsnied to abandon further work in the Egmont County. Oo the motion of Or. Brown it was decid> d to inform the Egmont County League that the Cjuncil would do no further work in the County. Or. Gray said he uaderstoei it was likely th it a traction engine and tru ;ks would ply toetwesn Okato and Now Plymouth, and he urged that the Tapuhae bridge should be put ia order. By planking it diagonally he thought the case would be met. The engine haviog a seven or eight inch tyre would save the roads a great deal ef wear and tear. The Chairman pointed out that the Tapuhae bridge was one of tho-e struai tun-s that it was contemplated to attend to sut of the bridga loan. Moreover, the mitter openel up the qurs'iou of carriers' licenses, as there was no doubt if tha tolls were romoved some arrangements would have to be made with regard to heavy traffic. Or. Gray moved that an application be made for a, rebate, j The Chairman pointed out tha v . it 1 was rather late to take that course, as, the cement had been used. Tne matter ' should have bsen reported earlier. The I merchants attention cou'd, however, be ] drawn to the matter. A memo from the Borough Council . was received relative to cu'ting down a the hill on the eistward side of the Henui river, necessitating the cutting t down of the entrance to the Hospital read.
