ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, January 30. This afternoon a fatal accident hippeued in some works at Upper Queen-street whereby a workman named Baekerville 1 ■ st his life. Baskbrville was working with some other men in txcavating, which was fairly when one side of the excavation caved in and buried the unfortuuatj mtn up to his neck, pinning him against the opposite wall. It was seen at once that Biskerville was seriously injured, and prompi measures were taken to get biin out. Wheu this was d >n<», however, it was s«en th it his injuries were very serious. Medical skill was of no avjil, and the unfortunate man must have died shortly after the fall of earth. Biskerville was a nun with a large family. Hokitika. January 30. Francis Rabeck, a young man 19 years of age, sou of a well-known hair-1 dresser of this tawD, was accidentally drowned thU aftarnosn in Lake Mahinapua. The body w.il recovarad this evening.
