WHANGAMOMONA.

(FBOH OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT'.) 1 During the past year Mr Davis has < erected a dairy factory to serve himself 6 and some neighbours. I found five sup- t pliers delivering milk on thß morning of ( my visit. Mr Davis showed me through ( the factory, and explained the details. , It is a very neat and compact concern, and the machinery is all good and up-to-date. From the last returns I saw that the butter was graded first class. The brand is " Kohuratahi," that of the Co op. being "Ku-ku." Mr Davis cirries on the work solely with the help of members of his family, each of whom is quite at home in the work of his or her own department. The road is mainly on the right side of the valley goiug oast, and tlio river and flats on the left. The boundary hills approach closely opposite the UilUide Factory, but immediately retire giving good flit away to Messrs Jamieson, May, Hill. Anderson, and lzett, who own the sections on the left side of the road. Mr Jamieson has done a good deal of planting and laid out a new and winding avenue to his residence. Mr May was doing a good deal of clearing in the past year. Mr Hill has completed his fencing, and Will probably drain a swamp on his, ground, which will add a valuable asset to: his property. I Mr Anderson carries on his store' business at present in the old residence of J Mr J. Wallace, but I found, in course of j erection, a convenient store and commodiouß residence on separate sites. Ad-

joining is a site given by Mr Anderson to: the Primitive Methodist Uhurch, which | has recently sent a clergyman (Mr Harris) to reside in the district. A manse and j church will shortly be erected. j Mr Harris holds regular services in the j Whangamomona and Tahora schools, in, the town hall, and in Mr Cornwall s \ . house in Whitianga district. He is well pleased with the attendance in general i Mr Anderson has opened a Sunday-school in the Whangamomona school, and is assisted by Miss V. Scott and Mr Bat- 1 chelor. Mis? Warner has one in thaj Tahora school There is talk of the erection of a| Roman Catholic church in the settlement,! and I hope to see this done before long. | On the right side of the rotd, tlfe next aectiou to the factory, is that of Mr P. J. White, who has built thereon a handsome cottage, recently enlarged, Mr White's cottape occupies a commandiog position, and the adjoining ground is dotted over with an array of little houses, each adapted to a specific purpose. The next section is Mr F. Webb's, which has also a frontage to the Kohuratahi-road. On the opposite aide of the latter road and also fronting the Ohura-ioad is Mr J. Grooves' sectioa. This contains a portion of the same marsh as that in Mr Hill's, and its drainage would greatly increase the value of Mr Groves' property. Mr Groves has built a neat cottage on his section, and Mr Webb is preparing to do likewise. Fronting the Ohura-road is the site for - the Kohuratahi hall given by Mr Groves. The timber is on the ground, and the hall will shortly be erected. I hope during the summer to be able to extend my trip further.

A movement is on foot to get the telephone extended to Mr Anderson's store. It is gratifying to see the large amount of improvement in the settlement, especially when we remember the great difficulties the settlers have had to contend With. A creamery will shortly be erected near the Mangare-roid to meet the requirements of settlers in that quarter. Our .broken weather has been very unfavourable for burning and haymaking, and has also delayed road metalling. Oar cricketers have gone to try conclusions with the Purangi the willow." 4
