The Lord Mayor p esided at a meeting of influential citizens at the Town Hall to initiate a fund for the relief of the drought suffering settlers. He announced that already he had received .£3OO towards the fuod, chiefly from New Zetland and Tasmanii,
The Primate and others made strong appeals on behalf of the eettlere, and gave harrowing details of the sufferings and losses, A considerable amount was subscribed in the rcom.
