Accompanied by Lord Milner,, Generals Lxwley, Lyttelton, BadenPowell and their staff, Mr Chamberlaia was we'comad at Krugersdo-p, and presented with an address signed by I all classes.
Mr Chamberlain, in returning thanks said the losses on both sides had been agg avated by tbe prolongation of the war, when the i»eue was beyond a doub*.
A new nation was arising out of the ashes of the old, and he hoped that those who hid been great in war would prove great in piace, The two nations now understood eich other, and their worst enemy would be the man who attempted to divide them.
As a practical form of showing sympathy he &uggFS''ed they should repair the Boer ra<moii 1 at Paade kraal and mike a j >lll6 tribute to tbe fallen on both sides.
Subsequ'ntly Mr Ohamberlain j mrneyed to Potahsfstroom, wh -re he was g'von a splendid receptijo, Genera's Andrea", Cronj 1 , aLd mny of the Dutch being amongst thase who welcomed bira.
In responding to address he sail he grateful for the welcome to the old Transvaal capital. The people wou'd fi-.d they have a just and sympathetic Gov-.r/.ment aud prjsp rity would follow the union. The cuiser Giod Hope has sailed for the Mediterranean.
Mr Chamberlain is to sail by the liner Norman on February 25 h.
