THE LOANS. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION, Received 22, 4,45 p.m. London, Jonuary 21. . The thirty-five millions loan was a compromise between the forty mil.'ion? proposed by Rand financiers and Mr Chamberlain's suggestion of thirty millions. It leaves twelve millions for new public work?. With reference to the war loan a meeting of representative great mining houses, excepting J. B. Robinson, suggested thirty millions as the contribution. A conference of traders, merchmtp, and rainr rs of the Rand afterwards ratified this by 74 to 4, Beceived 23, 0.54 a.m. Cape Town Jacuary 22. Mr Chamberlain announced that the thirty millions war loan was intended to relieve Britain's debt. The immediate relief to tbe revenue would be s'ight if any.
TRANBVAAL LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Received Q3, (J.st a.m. Cape Town, January 22. Louis Botha, O. Vaohulstyn, Sir G. Farrar, and Sir Percy Fitzpatrick will probrbly be nominated for the Transvaal Legislative Council, which meets in May, The sittings will be op«n to the public.
