r.iEUTKNA\T Hocker, who has been a meruler of the Taranaki Rifles for 25 ytats, the last five of which ho has held his pres a' commissiun, will, we understand, retire at the end ef February. The camp in the Recrent ; on Grounds is still in full swing. On Sunday'th* ehurch parade in the morning was well attended. In the afterroon there whs a large attendance of visi'ora and afternoon tea was dispensed to the ladies. , The Garrison Band went through the march which is to bs pe< formed at the forthcoming rontest at Masterton. The catering arrangements at the camp are faid to be working admirably and giviDg the greatest satisfaction. The sue. ess of the new departure practically ensures its adoption at all fu'ura encampments. After completing another year's service Col jur-Sergeant L j v«-, Sergeant* Araii'Bjte, Liatsr and Kendal) and Corporal At milage will all be entitlod to the long service mtdal. The work on the range has now been completed except the installation of th* telephone which will be dore in a few days.

Volunteers are indebted to Mr Smith, for obtaining prison l<bour for this purpose, also to Mr O'Brien, Warders O'Graly, Dolsmore and Downs, for the manner in which the work has been done. The trench will n w tike five targe's, and the principal fi ing points from fifteen to twenty men, which will bj a im provement and save a great deal of time inclss-firing.
