Mr Chamberlain's discussion with the leading citizen's of Johannesburg resulted in an agreement for an Imperial guaranteed public works' loin of 'hirty millions, and the war contribution to be fixed at thirty mil ions. An understanding was also arrived at on the labour qupstion.
SETTLING THE WAR CONTRIBUTION. Received 14, 11.15 p.m. London, January 14. Tbi Times heartily c mgratu'ates Mr Chamberlain on arranging a voluntary war contribution. The Standard says that if reUloment is somewhat indulgent to the Rind, yet it will in the long run pove advantageous to tbe bigh'st Imperial interests in Afric, and that tbe Rmd bas shown ita wisdom and patriotism in the matter.
