Many addresses were presented to him, including one from Australian residents in the c ty. Mr Chamberlain made a grest Imperial Fpe*eb, and appealed -to all to strengthen Lord Milner in the fulfilment of his gigantic task. If the Transvaal was peaceful, there wis little fear of trouble *1 ewhere.
The Colonial Secretary complimented the Imperial Light Horse and other gallant Johannesburg contingents. j He especially thanked Sir Edmund I Barton and Mr Seddon for their coni gratulations.
Mr Obamb'rlain declared that no Briton, appealing to the Motherland, would have jus l ; cause t-> go away dissatisfied. He was confident that Johsnneshurgers would no* show greater [regard for their purses than for their 'lives.
