TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

The aonual general meeting of this society was he'd on Saturday afternoon, bu' there was not a large t ttendance. Mr H. Okey, VicePiesiden', occupied the chair. The anrual report s'ftted that the meeting had been called somewhat earlier than usual, so that any matter* of moonent could' be d'soutsed whi'st fresh in tl e minds of members, The Society was £25 better off than last year, while the value of its assets wail 185, as against £154 last year. With reference to tha instructions <<iven at the last annual mettieg for arrangements to be made with the B TJugh for an exchange of reserves, a suggestiou was made that the meeting Siiould sanction the acceptatca of the Btrough's offer ti exchange 7| acies for S\ German's Square, in lieu of the original offer of 8| acre*, as the Borough did not deem it necessary to reserve one acre for it* own pnrpose*; also that sanction be given to the solicitors preparing the necessary bill to legalise the exchange on condition that the Borough paid half the expenses.

A long discussion took phce relative to the proposed txebang i of reserves, partieul irly with reference to the stipulation by the Borough that the Society should bear all the expense. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Hai kaefs, ic was decided to ask the ( G vernment to amend the AcS so as to give Agricultural Societies thj power suggested. A copy of' this resolution is to be sent to | kindred Societies and to thi members for the district, with a rrqusst for their 'co-operation. It had already been replied to. The Chairman mentioned the question of a two days show, but na action was taken, it being considered that 'here was not sufficient members present to decide on such an important matter.
