HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The annual mcoting of the New Plymouth Horticultural Society was htld on Friday evening, who a there were about a dozen members present, the wet weather probably accounting for the paucity of the attendance. Mr Deinpsey, the president, occupied the chair, The annu .il ropjrt was re id, and stited briefly tha Society had b en very succes;i'ul in encouraging tho cultivation of flowers and garden products throughout the district. Special thanks were due to the I.dies on the committee and to Mr McGahey, eecretaiy, for the succe s of the p<st year's work. It was announced wi h regret that Mr H. Oatt'ey h.d dee'dei to withdraw from active work, Ha had bee a associated with the society almost from its ine-p ion, and h\d assisted in j many ways. A pleasing fei'.ure of the last show the number of dgw competitors, many of whom rfsided a considerable distance away. Referring to the exhibit s generally, it wa? r. gretted tha cooking cltsses were the most unsitisfdetory, and it was hope! this subject would receive greater atrantioa at the next show. Thanks were due tj Messrs Lsirdand Son?, Wanganui, for exhibits of rcsesand cut bUrms, Therj were now nine horticu'tural societies in Taranaki affiliated with tha Taranaki Horticullural Assocht : on. The year hid been most successful for this soeiety, tha bilanca-r heet showing that a deficiency of £3 lid had been wiped off', and there now remained a credit balanoa of .£lO 14s. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. The elec bn of officers remlted:— President, Mr S. Percy-Saoith ; vic3prea : den's, Mrs Dockril l , Messrs Djok- ■ rill, Oat'ley, W. Ambu'y; hon. secretaries, Messrs A, Hooker and 0, 11. McGahey; audi or, Mr A, B. It, Foakes; committee, Mesdamea W. H. Skinner, Pasco?, 0. T. Mills, A. B. It. Fookes and Wo l'ey, Mi s s Hampton, Testar, E. 0. Stanford, Messrs 0. T. Mills, F. Pepp3ie l, P. Eva, F, Qjoiaere, L W. Alexander, Q. Tisch, A. E. Watkius and J. Mackenzie. Mr Djckrill then prfsented Mr H. R. Oattley with a silver hot water jug 8s a recognition by the soe'ety of the great amount of work done by him in various capwities, The date of the show was l.ffc to the committee to fix. The usual vote of thanks to the retiring officers and the Press concluded the business, The annual meating of the Taranaki Horticultural Assoc : ation was held on Friday, at Eltham, when the following delegates were presentM'ssrs Limbrick, president (Manaia); C'owern (NormaulOllUlliug (J3Ul,Uj)j G., Tate (Waitara), Trimble (loglewcod) and Peacock (eecretary). ■ It was decided to early on the Assoc : ation for another ye.ir, Mr Limbrick was reelected president, Mr Q. Tate vicepresident acd Mr Peacock secretary, The constitution of the National Horticultural Association, of NewZadand, wss discuss d at langth, and amendments made for submission to the nexo Conference.
