LICENSING.
A meeting of ths Egmont Licensing Committee was held on Tuesday. Present; Me-srs R. L. Stanford, S.M. (chairman), Dingl", Sole, Kennedy, Woodhead, and Morison. The sub-commit'ee eat up to iospecb *the hotels at Inglewood and Waibara repsrted ng follows: 1. We find that the balcony is almost completed at the Masonic" Hotel, bu'. would recommend thit it be cirried round the corner of the building on the west side a few fejt, and that a stairway be place! in the right-of-way. 2. The contract>rf r the erection of the bate nies at tho Waitaia and Biidge Hotels is waiting for the timber to proceed with the work. Tho advisab'eness of renewing p\rt or whole of the Wait*ra will have to be considered in the near future. The license told us th it he could do with fii'e or six more bedrooms. At the Bridge Hotel we find that many of the rooms ate too small ta have two beds in them.
3. In re the Inglewood Hotel, wo ara of opinion that in view of the fact of a consider*! le sum of money havit.g been spent on this hotel months ago, and that is does not seem ,(o be in suiv way crowded, and a'so in iv : ew of the possible changes at th.3 coming election, we do not d»,em it ad- | visible to recommend it to be re-built during th s present term of license. As to the darkness of the stairway, we fiud that there is only one straight stir 1 adiag down f.om the storey, which is only about nine ftet high, and a few steps ti the *kre*t dour. A skylight immediately above wou'd bj all that is required at tha present time, »nd we recommend tbat it-, ba authoris >d t> h* done, but the advis*bleress of re-building will have to be considered at an airly date. The report was then adopt d by tho committee.— l'ost.
