REV. JAMES LYALL'S MISSION.
THE CLOSING SERVICES. Sunday afternoon's meeting in the Drill Hall w,<s attended by an unusually Hrga number of people, the seivice being very hearty throughout. Rev. Lyall fiunded his add rats on the subject " E'rrn'tl punishment, does the Bible' te>ch it?" and his earnest thoughtful words secured the keenest attcn'i >n, could not fail to carry convict : on with th.-m t 0 the hearts of mmy. In the evening, at the final set vice of the mi-sion there was an immense gathering, by fur the largest of the mission. Aftersinging snd devotional exercises by the Rev S, J, SerI pell, Mr Lyall proceeded with his address without any scripture reading on account of the lateness of the hour, taking for his text 2nd Heb., third verse, " How shall we escape if we neglect so great silvation?" Mr Lyall dwelt upon the danger, the folly and the sin of negl cting our eternal welfare. Ho spoke in forcible terms of the costly nature of sin to the State
and to the individual. Hff spoke of the misery and wretchedness caused by sin, from tin time when A.dam sinned duvn to the preaent day. The cost of gin was, however, nothing as compared with tho prica paid for man's salvation. In graphic language he spoke of the death of Christ on the cross, when ram's :pdemption was assured. The ereafc difficulty was to got people to believe that Christ had dons everything for them, and they had only to surrender themselves, If anyone gave him a free passage to Elinburgh, what would they think o r him if he insisted on working his pa .s.ige in the stoke hol<; yet this was exactly the attitude of the average man in regard t,o salvation. Christ by his death on the Cross had paid the price, and given all thosa who would take him as their Saviour, a free pass right into heaven. In earnest language Mr Lyall warned his hearers of the consequ'encs of ntg'outing the [message ha had, during t.i>i< mission, i delivered to 'hero. There wera those who held that, man passed away as the begets of fhe field, but-- ths Bible siid " After deith the judgment." And on that great, day, when the God of all the earth shall come to sit in judgment neglec'-ed warnings, and neglec'ed opportunisms would ria.i in judgment against them. A very largu Luinbtr st'iysd to th o t f or meeting, which closed with tho Benediction,
