THE REV. J. LYALL'S MISSION.

There was a very large gathering at the Drill Hall on Wednesday evening, The interest iu tf e mission is certainly growing and deepening, all the churches in tjwn heing represented on the platform and iu the audience, which appears to get larger and larger each evening, Ttie afternoon meetings are also being largely attended. This after-toon, Mr Lyall announced, the meeting would b < hold in the Wtsleyaii Church, and »s it is the half-holiday, Mr Lyall expressed the hope that the men would be largely represented. Last night, after the usual opening exercises, in which the various ministers took part, the rev. missioner delivered an exceedingly powerful discourse. .Taking [for his subject " The relations of man with the Holy Spirit," he p.'inted out that the Holy Spirit was often referred to us an influence, but Christ hiuastlf always spoke of the Ho'.y Spirit as a loving paismality, as the third pers.n iu the Godhead, and it was from this standpoint he dealt with man's dealing with God. With wonder l'ul Mr Lyall pressed his subject on the attention of his hearers, at tha sasae time warning them that "God's Spirit would not always strive with man." During lis address, Mr Lya 1 q>io.ed EJg.r Allod Poe's poem " The Raven," which hi: said always seemed to him to bo the cry of a lost soul, and his recitation of tho last verso was very effective. Needless to say, Mr Lyall held tha bie.v.hlesj attention of his hearers throughout, and we are ple»ssd to heir that much good is resulting from tha mission The mission cjntinues all the week, the meeting c<anam9ncing this evening a 1; 7.45. The growing attendance i* beginning to tax the setting accommodation, so those who wish to ci.00.-e their sea s should get there early, There is no collection to-nigkt.
