The promo'ion of Lieutenant John Cook toc»ptain bf the Taranaki Guards is gazttted. The appointment of Dr. George Home as siugeon-oap'.ain on the New Zealand Volunteer Medical Staff ie gazetted. Owing to an oven sight, the election for officers of the TaraLaki Rifle* has to bo held again. This will be the third time of asking, and, it is hoped, wilt settle the matter finally. Red tape evidently forms a large portion of |th» equipment of our Defence Offic, aud while ic to doubt has it uses seems capable of being employed to excess.
Recruits of the Taranaki Rifles are notified to attend at the Whittley flail to-uight for instruction in the care of the i ifis.
Captain Symee, formerly of the Alexandra Cavalry, id gaz.t'ed to the honorary unatttcbtd list, with the taiik of captain.
