The Daily News. TUESDAY, JUNE S, 1902. THE DECLARATION OF PEACE.
Thb long-looked-for news tbat at last the Boeis bavo recognised the folly of continuing the struggls against the might; and power of the British Empire, and hare accepted the conditions kid down by Lirds Eatcheter and Milner, appears in this issue. What these conditions are will be made cle*r in a few days. W§ m»y rest assured, however, that none of the vital conditions necessary to secure a permanent and lasting peace hive been abated. The war has cost too much, in blood and treasure, for the Government to , risk a repetition of the trouble. The mistake of Majaba we have been told is not to be repeated, and we may depend upon it that Lord Salisbury and Mr Chamberlain have secured for the nation the fruits of the war. Th« first thought, after we have rendered thanks to the Giver of all peace for the successful termination of the war, must be to endeavour to heal the wounds caused by the struggle, and by a generous recognition of the difficulties of those who have fought against us help to hasten the time when Briton and Beer will enite in upholding the integrity of the gr«at British Empire, of which they now form a part, and in recognising the protective power of the flag which floats over the brave and the free.
