The Cabinet was hastily sumaoud to day to consider the Boers' reply to Tuesday's commutiications. Mr. Balfour hopes to be able to announce tha result of the peace negotiations on Monday. Public expectation still points to peace.
Received 80,9.47 p.m. London, May SO, The peace conference at Preton'a concluded on Wednesday, and debate* have st»r*ed at Vareeniging for the final ballot. Lord Milner has returntd to Johannesburg, Raoeivel SI, 0.16 a m. London, May 30. On receipt of Britain's definite reply the Boer delegates went to Yereeugiug, apparently rsady to recommend the acceptance of the terms. It is understood that banishment will not be enforced, excepting in the case of irrrooncilables refusing to take the oath of allegiance. The Boers will retain horses and aroos for eelf-defence, and will be allowed influential representation upon Lord Miluei'e advisory council, prior ro the granting of representative government.
The Daily Mail states the Government is informed that the irreoenoiU able* have accepted the preliminaries of peace, and only a few minor details remain unsettled.
Mr Bennett Burleigh (Daily Tel*. graph correspondent) states it i* not amicipit'd that th« Vereeniging confeence's final' decision will be taken before Monday, which explains Mr Balfour's statement that there is a shadow of doubt if the Government will be able to make an announcement on Monday.
