Though the e'em«nts on Thursd»y evening seemed d-itermired to discourage people from venturing forth, thero was a very good audience at the oncert in St. May's Hall. This had been by Miss D)Vtn ; sb, assisted by Miss Hempton [and ladies of the choir, the object being to raise funds for the purchase of a new organ for St. Mary's Church. A series of thts?) concerts will bo hold during the winter. The programme submitted was an excellent one in every r<spect, showing that great care had been expended in the arrangement of details, and fully merited the applause so freely accorded by the audience.

The opening number was a well ex-1 ecuted pianoforte duet by Misses Skeet j aud Marchant, which was received with much appreciation by thu audience j This was followed by a table.™, " Tannhauser meeting the bi6r of Elizabeth on his return," which was Btaged wi*h good effect. A vocil item, "The mighty deep," by Mr J. W. Byan, [evoked hearty applause, and thn singer had to respond to an encore, giving " I'm oft to Philadelphia in the morning." Mis* MacDhrmid was vry successful in her number, " Sunshine and ruin." The p,irt-snng, " The Old Brigade," by part of th<» choi*', was another pleasing item, and wis well roceiv-d. Mr Brown contributed « song, " Dolly Grey." The second part opened with a pianoforte overture by Miss Ohong. The tableaux, " An unrecorded coronation " and "The innantaion," were etch warmly applauded, and other items were:—Song, "Only once more," Mr Nelson ; vocal duet, " Why left I my hame," Misses Baker; song, " Manarita," Miss Skee 1 ;; song, *' T he flowing tide," Miss Cheng; plantation song, " Shine, shine, moon," the choir. The accompanists were Mrs Baker, Miss Standish, and Mr Golding.
