Osr resuming at7pm. it was resolved, that the Inspector's report in reply to the Teachers' Institute be received, and a copy forwarded to the Institute. j The Inspector submitted a report on I Saturday clashes, and recommended a grant of £5 to Mr Join Ron towards His expenses in potng to We'lingtoa for instruction. The report was adopted, after a short discuwion. The Inspector reported on the aub-. ! ject of Hciftic". rerommending the Board to grant » £ fir £ subsidy, to be limited to £3 in a year to each school, to nssist. in the procuring of necessary appliances. Mr Mickay thought that before tbo. Board took any steps it should see what was going to be done in the matter of technical education. Mr Allsworth agreed, and submitted thar, the Board's finances would not stand the strain. If technical schbo's were established there would bo a useful collection of apparatus, under proper ore. He quire pyrapathised with the Inspector's proposals. !The Chairman concurred in those views, and thought the matter might be held over. The Inglewood. Committee wrote asking for a subsidy towards science apparatus procured by the Norfolk-rod teacher. Mr Mackay moved that the report and the letter be held over till some understanding is come to legnding technical- education. Mr Morton seconded, and hoped that science would before long be plaood on a footing. Nelson and Taranaki were going to suffer by redueed incomes, and other Boards were also dissatisfied.
Mr Allsworth said the Department had adopted a course which the teaching profession and Boards had advocated for years. The jev*ral Boards wera dissatisfied for various seasons, and it would be found probably at th« confet eace that all the delegates would be pulling in different ways. Tho Department was doing its bes"-, and them had cot y&t been time for anomalies to be put right.
