The Mayor, referring to the applications for the p -f-i ioa of Borough Engineer, s-.id the local applicant hud sta.ed that ho wished to withdraw on account of increasing priva'e business requiting the whole of his at'en'ion.
the t-s'imonia's of theremaioing applicants had been considered by councillors, Or. Brooking moved the appointment of Mr Spencer, of Wellington.—Seconded by Cr. S'obr. The Mayor gaid that out of five applicants selected by the Council three h.d re'ired ; but cot, he was sure, through any action of the Council. Ha thought, seeing that some former appointments made had not ended altogether satisfactorily, the Council should be commended for ths care exe ei"ed in the present case. The motion was carried.
