SATISFACTORY INCREASES IN REVENUE. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, May 22. The public account" for the year are gazetted to-night. These show that ordinary revenue increased £220,949. Increases are shewn in every branch contributing to the ordinary reveuue Customs shnw an increase of £20,255, land tax £18.252, income tax £5588, beer du*y £5063, registration £8955, and miscellaneous £7349, territorial revenue shows a decrease of £20,584 as compared with the previous year As regard) outlay, public works expenditure increwd from £1,307,511 to £2,137,632, defence expenditure was £340,059 as against £244,215 >'n 1901, lunacy ai d charitable aid £65,343 nguinst £64,512, old age pensions coat £207,468 "gain-t £196 607 in the previous yeara-d £157,095 in 1900. Depar'm -rtal expenditure increased from £3,144 480 to £3,498,246; permanent appropriations from £2,335,223 to £2,397,699. The railway rt-vonu > increased from £1,720,641 to £1,869,489, and the expenditure from £1,144,832 to £1,280,772 ; railway loan expenditure f-om £717,722 to £1,333,940.

The Cheviot Estafin acount has a balance in hand of .£16,860. At the beginning of the year there was a balance of 1,680, and the receipts totalled £14,061, including .£14,007 for rents. Of this expendi ure £8866 was for interest, and £ls for surveys, reading, etc.

The Conversion Accoun l- . • hws that the 3 per cent, inscribed stock issuad during the year amounted to £384,147; debenturrs redeemed aggregated £51,(330; and £327,147 worth of debentures were converted into 3 per c°nt. I inscribed stock. The expenses account amounted £4853.
