ACTING PREMIER AT WESTPORT.

He also received several deputations, and promised to piovide telephonio communication between Westport and Karamei. Tne Government, he said, was in earnest about the State mine, but aclaune in the Stat* deal Mines Bill had made it that ; money should t;e placed on the E«ti- | mates for continuing the work that | was a clog on the machinery, Ht hoped to have this removed next v session. | To-night Sir Jo-t ph and Lady Ward are being entertained at a banquet at Westport.
