THE PROHIBITION MOVEMENT.
MJSS BALGARNITC AT NEW PLYMOUTH. Miss Balgaunie, the Prohibition lecturer, who has just concluded a very successful mission in Wellington, accompanied by Mi«s Isitt,, arrived in New Plymouth by the 5.40 train on Friday evening. A fair sprinkling of the leadeis of tho Prohibition movement assembled at the residence of Mrs Allan Douglas to welcome Mies Balgarnie to Taranaki. Some time was spent in discussing the plan of campaign and matters of general interest. Mrs Douglas, as president of the W.0.T,U., then in a few well chosen words expressed the pleasure it gave her, on behalf of the Union, to welcome Miss Balgarnie to New Plymouth and wish her " God speed " in her great work in which she ha 1 the sympithy of every member of the Übion. Mr C. Bellrin«o-, us president of the Prohibition League, said he was very phased, on behalf of tha League, to have the opportunity of welcoming Miss Balgaroia to New Plymouth. He trus'ed God would b'ess her and her work. He could assure her that her visit; to New Plymouth was being looked forward to with a great deil of interest, and he hoped her mission here would ba productive of a deal of good, and give the cause a gnat lift forward.
Mis? Balgarnie, in reply, said she thanked th c m very sincerely for the hearty and kind welcome, and should look forward to returning to New Plymouth with pleasure. She wassoivy her visit was to short, and largely if a business nature, but hoped la f er. on to see more of the friends who had so kindly wdcomed her. Miss Bilgarnie then pioce?ded to the railway station, and went north by tho Talcapuna to Auckland, where sin oonducts a mission throughout the Auckland province, Arrangements hive be in completed for Miss Balgarnie to conduct a uiissioi in Taranaki, extending over n wei k or ten days. The dates have not bseu dffiDirely fixed, but the mission in New Plymouth will extend over three days, and Waittra, Jnglewool, Stratford, El'ham, Hawera, and othar centres will be visited, a day or two being spsnt in each. Miss Bilgaroie will bo preceded and followed by others* of the numerous Prohibition workcts about to take the field,
