PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, May 8. It has Wen decided to bold a conference between bankers and representatives df the Chamber of Commerce on the subject of bank holidays. May 24th (the late Queen's Birthday) and May 19th (Whit. Monday) are amongst the diys which under the present law banks must observe as holidays, but their difcontinuance has been widely proposed. Tbe proposal of tbe City Council to borrow X233,C00 for improving the city water supply was to-day rejected by the ratepayers. Out of 7500 persons on tht roll, 777 voted against the proposal and 298 for it.
