FIRST TEST MATCH. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. London, May 5. Owing to the sodden state of the ground early in the morning, the match, Australians v. London County Club, did not basin till 3.30 p.m. The County Club team is composed of Grace, Fry, Murdoch, Jareop, Beldam, Wood, W. Smith, Llewellyn, Braund, Vine, and Board. Trumble, Jones, and Carter stood out of the Australian team. The Australians won the toss and batt-ed first. Hill was clean bowled with a yorker. Gregory was in for 50 minutes, Braund dismissing him with a nice catch in the slips off a skyer, which he attempted to hit to leg. Four wickets for 80. Darling was finely caught by Fry at mid-off from a hard drive. When his score was five be gave a hot chance to Murdock at mid-on, off Llewellyn, otherwise he played an excellent innings. He hit Llewellyn for three successive fours. Five for 83, Trumper had made one when rain caused a stoppagu. When play was resuaied Armstrong accompanied Trumper to the wickets. Armstrong made a single and then Trumper was run out, trying to run a second. Six for 99. Hopkins was next man, and plsyed Grace on. Seven for 102 Kelly joined Armstrong, who was stupidly run out, Jessop, with a smart throw, knocking down his wicket. Eight for 112. Howell followed but skied one, Grace taking »n e*By catch at point. Nine for 116. Saunders, the last man, failed to score, Beldam dismissing him with an easy catch at short leg. Kelly carried bis bat out for 5.
