GARRISON BAND.
The annual general "toasting of the i Garrison Band was held on Wednesday evening at the Town Hat!, There was a large attendance of members, Mr D. McKionen Bain presiding. The annual report and were read and adopted. The following officers wore then elected : —Patron, E. M, Smith, Esq,, M.U.R.; president, Lioutonaut-Colonel Newall; vice-presidents, the officers of the Taranaki Battalion, Rav. P. G. Evan.», D/ 8. Home, Leathum, Walksr, MeOleiand, Messrs D. McKinnon Bain, N. K. MucDiarmid, W, L. Newman, W. Goker, J. 0, George, R. 0. Hughes, S. W. Shaw, A. Ambury, W. Ambury, E. G. A 1 sw irth, R. Ha ifield, R, Coleman, G. Tiic'n, Alexander, Ab. Goldwater, A. E. A, Olarki-, E. Dockrill, 0. 3. Skelton, and «>. 0. Morey. The Chairman said the eeorttury, Miff. Newell, tad decided that tn could tiot keep on tho ciefa' yuhip, aad eulogised Mr Neweli's past services. Bandsman W, Nioh:>l was ihan '•looted to the oflfice. The following committee wa« elected: Snrgeant N. well, Bandsmen Ricliaul", Fla't, Pick Ford, ani F. Colombo, with :h bandmaster and secretary ex otficio. Bandsman Bulloik was appointed ;i----brarmi, B.udsmin Alien custoaiati, Btmisman S!y corporal, and Bnwsmiiii Pickford latiee-corpora!. master Haigh for his swvios duriug ttie past year. Before concluding the business; Bandmaster Haigh, in a few well chosen words, made a presentation of a cheque for .£lO from the band to the retiring secretary, Band-Sergeant F. Newell. The recipient suitably thanked members for the present, and made >i few pertinont remarks on the need for | members to continue to work well I together as in the part, i Mr H. Ford, one of tho trustees c f the band, nsked the chairman if the trustees still held office, and if .'o whether a li.it of all property would be supplied. This was agreed to be done. Mr Ford bl-o co nplimen*ed the bind on having recognised the -rorth of the late secretary, with whom he hid been associated a goo 1 deil, and whom ha had always found a a most painstaking and self-sicriticirig worker. The meeting concluded with the usual compliment to the chitr.
