The Daily News. SATURDAY, APRIL 26, 1902. THE ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
A. meeting of considerable importance is advertised to take place this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock, which wn hope to see well attended. We refer to the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society. This Society is calculated, it properly supported, to be of very great benefit to the district. In the past the werk of the Society has fallen on a few who, in the most self-denying manner, have carried out the important duties devolving upon them. Noth withstanding the lack of public interest these duties have been well and faithfully performed. As a result of the labours of the Society the rivers are well stocked with fish, and game is fairly plentiful, the result being, besides the benefit to residents, the influx every year of a large number of sportsmen who are attracted thereby, It must not be thought, however, that nothing remains to be done; there are still many ways in which the Society may continue to do good work, There is a larg9 and increasing revenue and a wide field in which to operate and those who have worked so well for the welfare of the Society and district certainly dsserve recognition by the piblic. Last year the attendance was very disheartening to the committee who had practically to prepare, receive and adopt their own report. We trust on this occasion more interest will bn taken in the work of this useful Society and the attendance be sufficient so show that the Society has the sympathy, support, and cordial cooperation of the community.
