RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

SEVERAL KCBbONS IHJURWD. in PUSS ASSOC lATIOH, Duukdih, April 21. What is believed to be a somewhat serious collision occurred on the Otngo Central railway this evening. Tbe 4own train was running about two houu late owing to a slip at Wedderfaorn. About 400 yards on the other side of Hinden (?) it earn* into collissioß with a train from Dunedin. The two engines and several trucks left tbe rails, some being much damaged. One! carriage, it is believed, was telescoped. A fireman had his leg broken, and several pass&mgers ware injured or knocked about. A relief engine with a doctor and ambulance appliances left Dunedin to-night, and may return about 1 a.m. Very few particulars are Available so far. Mr Grant, Traffic Manager, left on a visit of inspection in tbe north to-day, and is directing operation* by wire from Oamaru, so no details art knows here.

Later, None of tbe passengers are believed to be seriously injured. The fireman, whose name is Hewitt, had his hip injured. Sergeant-Major Cardale, drill instructor, and Mrs J. Beid, ofWedderbura, are alightly cut about the bead. Mr Taylor, of Middlemarch, is slightly bruised. Two trucks are overhanging the river, aeiag held up by the couplings. Had the collision occurred higher up both trains must have gone into the river 40 or 50 fret below.
