On Friday, the 18th instant, on the motion of Mr J. B. Roy, the Registrar Df the Supreme Court sitting in Chambers, granted probata of the will of the late Mrs Catherine Russell Hodder to Messrs I'. R. Hodder and 0. N. Hodder, the executors in the said will named.

The Harbour Board meeting en Friday was remarkable for the smoothness with which proceedings went off. The Board adjourned at 245 p.m.—a record for many months prst. The alleged sly grog gelling case, from Tongapourutu, has been adjourned till Wednesday, 23rd instant. A point of some interest cropped up at the Police Court on Friday morning, when the Truant Officer proceeded against Mr Robert Hodson, of Tataramaika, under the Bcbool Attendance Act. Mr Wostoa appeared for defendant, and put in the child's birth certificate showing the child was over age, The case was dismissed and Mr Weston applied for costs. Tbe Truant Officer opposed on the ground that he went by the school roll. After some armament the S.M. refused costs on the greund that it was giving costs against a public department. The Education Department could not be blamed, and the Truant Officer was justified under tbe circumstances in taking proceedings. The Truant Officer said these 1 mistakes often occurred, sometimes by error and sometimes teachers complained incorrect ages were supplied. The building adjoining the National Tank' tn 'Bzeugham-street, lately occupied by J. da 1 >Silva, will to-day be sold by auction by Mr. King. It'onthly subscriptions to the New Plymouth' Investment and Loan Society are due to-day. A consignment of furs is to be sold at the mart to-day'. Hon. A. J. Oadman is expected in town shortly. He stfils for England by the Karamea at the end of the month.

A fine specimen of the fruit of tlie egg plant, weighing nearly a pound, is to be seen in Mr Cattley'o window in Devon-street.

I Orders for 40,000 fowls have reached the colony from South Africa. A table compiled by the Post and Telegraph Department shows that fifty members of the department's staff enlisted in various contingents for South Africa.

Harford, who was reported mi'sing yesterday, has turned up at his lodgings in Wellington.
