In return for pkcing the land in the New Hebrides at disposal of the Commonwealth, Mr Barton agreed to p>y Burns, Philp and Company £2400 additional to the present, contract for conveying the mails »o the New Hebrides in order to enable 'he c mpany to substitute white fnr b'ack labour on the steamers and ex end the service to other islands.
