At each si do is a polished-columt of red granite, with o>maru s one cirvod bases and capitals, supporting a corr.ice and pedime-'t of carved Oatnaru stone, finishing wr'i carved Gothic fiuials, the whole forming a.i exceedingly handsome .aid appropriate memorial ill keeping with the hton-j walls of tho church, and worthy cf the prominent position held by the late Mr Owington. The inscription, whuh is in plain black letwiin/, is as follows: To the memory of Frederick Alonzo Carrington, who hndod at Mo'uioa 12th February, 1841, and founded the settlement of New Plymouth, and wag for many years superintendent of the Province of Taranalri, and a member o? the Howe of Representatives.
