Eighty-five men are in the mounted camp under Majnr Dunk and Lieutenant Davis. The Inspector and Major-General Babington arrived at noon and held an inspection in the afternoon. He put the men through a course of work calculated to test their, individual knowledge of drill, and in a ' subsequent address he stated ho had not come to find fault but to help th« meo to the best ef his ability. He deprecated a too close adhesion to book drill, hut preferred officers and men should, as fu- as possible, ack seceding to common sense. General Babiogtf>n said while in Now ZeJtnd he would endeavour to train the meo such away as would preserve the individuality of fhe colonial soldier. He also advised tha men to pny greit ntten'ion to rifl-v shooting. Hn created a very favourable impression io the minds of the men.

Carbery to be lieutenants; Hawera Rifles, Alexander Paterson and Henry M. P iyne to be lieutenants; Stratford Rifle?, William G.Maloneto be captain; Patea Rifles, William H. McLssa to be captain ; loglewoed Rifles, Arthur Leech to he lieutenant; Elthnm Riflet, James Boridia to be ciptain ; Wait&ra Rifles, William L. Gray to bo captain, Roger G. Dansey to be lieutanant. It is Mr Seddon'a intetit'on to secure Colonel Portpr's services to command the New Zealand Contingent at the Coronation ceramony.
