FIRES.
PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington', March 16. A fire took place at about half-put four o'clock this morniog iu a four-s-one i wooden building o*ukl by J. : Na ban and Company, and titua°«d at the corner i f Grey and Fea'hi'istons' leets. The building was occupied by No's in, Moate, and Company, teamerclmn k; Young and Tripe, l an isters and solicitors; Henderton and Hank, brokers; J»ok, mining agent; and Peabrjdy and Company, merchants. The fire was oufined to the upper floor, whuh was in the occupation of Nelson, Mi,ate and Company. Tbis fiim had an uousuilly heavy stock of tea in hand an the time, and the Iws cannot yet b < estimated. The building waa insured for X 4200. loßuranoea on r>to.k are uot yet known. About 7.30 to night a fire broke out in a wooden building usod as a gymnasium in Madras-street, and as the Brigade wtre very slow in getting the wat«r on it was completely d»>sroyed, s was also the Girten ColU>g», eon* iueted by Misses Freeman and Fodtr, whil ) the bouses ou either side wete badly damaged. The furnitue which «as tiken out of Uuse houses was badly wreckei. The gyumi'ium was originally built by Worthingtoa as a s social ball iu coruec'ion with the > " Temp'.e of Truth," while th.« Girtoa College was also oreod by the "Students of Truth" as a kindergarten. The gymnasium was insurel in the National office for £SOC, and the Gircon College for £SOO and content* for .£4OO, in the Royal Esohange otfiw. Shortly aftor sevon o'clock on Saturday evening the Fire Brigade r a call to a fire which had broken out in a stable adjoining the Eftaont Biewery, in Quean-street.
