MeKniifht against several offioerg in > the Linda and Suivey Department, | Auckland, was opened at the Magistrate's < ourt to-day by Mr. Tfaoi. Hutcheson, B.M. The gist of the charges was that McKnight was, in September, 1899, appointed assist int road inspeotor to G. O. Menziss, st , R&wene, Hokianga, by the Hon. HallJon»s; but was harassed and huoted out of his billet to make way for A. M.erzi 8, h brother to G. G. MenzUs. He "tuted he had been wrongfully dism sied, without ctuse and without explanation. After each of the officers " inieristid had been served with aoopy of the charges tha proceedings were adjourned till ntxs Tueaday.
