RECREATION GROUNDS BOARD.
The Board met on Friday, Present: Messrs. Hughes, Oorkill, Newman, Ford, Govatt. In the absence of the chairman Mr, Hughes presided. The New Plymouth Garrison Bund wai lel'used poimission to take up a collection in aid of the Troopers' Mtmorial Fund on Sunday afternoon in the Grounds, the Board not approving of collections in the grounds on Sunday as the grounds should be abso- ' lutely free on thacday. It was resolved that Messrs. Govett and Newman be a committee to inquire, into the damage done in the grounds] (particularly to the box hedge around the lake) on the occasion of the Central School swim<niog sports, and to institute proceedings should they consider it advisable. A letter will be sent to the Bind Contest Committee, pointing out the necessity of providing adequate police protection in the g'ftunds. It was decided to instruct the custodian to prevent any person going on the lawn until the competitions of the N.1.8.8.A. are over. The latter of Mr. Hughes, senr., will be acknowledged, and he is to be cordially thanked for his valuable services. . It was resolved that on receiving a deposit; of £2 to cover expanses of advertising, etc., the Brard offer for tender for a term of "21 years the sections No. 1047 and 1048 mentioned in Mr. Courtney's le'ter; the deposit to be returned in the event of a tender being accepled. Mr. Corkill gave notice to move at ] next meeting : " That the grounds be! henceforth known as Victoria Park (or Queen's Park), and th-it the name bo painted on the entrance gates and used in all notices reliatiog to the grounds." Mr. Ooi kill was appointed overseer for the ensuing month.
