NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION.
CONMRKMQE AT PALMERSTON. IA conference promoted by the National Dairy Association was held at PalmerstoD on Friday. Its object was to consider the question of establishing selling committees by the Association ■ for the purpose of disposing of the produce of nffilia'ed factories. A similar conference had been heM in Taraniki, wbec delegiti s from factories of that die'rict met the executive of the Association. A scheme which had been j piepa'6'i by th* Association's executive was then submitted, and with some slight amendments was approved. The amended scheme was submitted to the confur&nce, and w»s discussed at considerable length. The Association was represented by Mwrs J. G. Hirkness (President), 0. R. Be*t.tie (Secretary), amd A. lMcFarldiio, a director, and representing the Bdhsice Dairy Company. The delegates pre-ent were Messrs W. Hodder a*d Mm ray Jackson (Featherston D.0.), A. Gallon D.O.), G. Stav,m (Belvedere D.0.), W. Fisher ('"a<atahi D.C.), G. Shaw (Parkvale D.C.), G. Bown (Secretary Belvedete and T*ratahi D.C.'s), J. Benneit (private factory, , P.iluwrs on), E. Peterson (Mmrioeville DO.), Kamson and Wbitl taker (Rarigotea D.0.), Bartett, , and Luikow (Waitohi D.C. Marl--1 borough), Byrnn Brown (Otaki , D.0.), Shannon (R?wa D. 0.). The . brief outline of the Taranaki schemn , discussed was that a committee be . formed in Taranaki extending to that position of the Wellington provincial ■ district lying to 'the westward of the , Waoganui river and another in the i southern district to include the remaitI ing portion of the Wellington pro--1 vincial district-, together with the pro- . vinces of Hawke's Bay and Marl- . borough, each district to be controlled by a committee to consist in eaoh case 1 of three members of the executive of , the Association, and three delegates . from the affiliated factories, the delegitt& to be eli>cti>d by the in'ewed . factories, the joint committee to be , elected at the opening meeting of th ' local selling season in January of each year, and to remain in offica until th' following season; the committee to dt- , cide the minimum price at which dairy . produce i« to be disposed, of by the contributing factories for a state* period or periods, that is for one, two, ; or three months, or any term deemed . advisable; any increased price which . may be secured to be left to the individual factories. Keen interest was token in . the whole scheme, and every detail was , carefully discussed by the representatives present.
