During the last few yeirs a vast improvement has been made in the manner of applying the fine arts to manufactures for domestic purposes. A house of the ear ! y Victorian period is very different to a house of the present day, both in comforts, decorations, and furniture. To take first a few practical matters. We «re vastly more particular, arid we have vastly progressed in our drainage, our water supply, both hot and cold, and so forth. Such subjects as these must be carefully studied by many different classes of workers, not ooly by plumbers, and engineers, but by builders, decorators, and by architects. But this dot s not limit the classes who must study such subjects, for it is not only those who apply them, but those who manufacture the ap-j pliances, who must understand the processes of manufacture. In the i " Encyclopaedia Brittannica" will be found admirable treatises on Architecture by Professor Middled, on Mural decorations by William Morris, who instituted a reformation in the art of house decoration which might almost be called a revolution. The fine arte generally are dealt with by Mr. Sidney Uolvin. Japanese art, which has had so great pn influence of recent yews upon English decorative art, is fully dealt with by Sir Rutherford Alcock. Thes9 are only a few articles, chosen at random from the very many whn-h deal with all the subjects we have mentioned above, and which will enable a young man, entering upon any manufacturing or other business connected with the complete equipment and decoration of our homes, to fully infoi m himself upon all branches of learning which will assist him in his work. Many a young man owes his.start in life to this great work of learning. Thtse who apply promptly may secure it from the Daily Mail rn very easy terms, and at less than half price.
